Maths

at St Luke's CE Primary School

Mathematics is the experience, recognition, study and communication of relationships in number, algebra, data handling and shape, space and measures and their application to solving problems in a variety of situations. It provides a way of viewing and making sense of the world. It is used to analyse and communicate information and ideas and to tackle a range of practical tasks and real life problems. Developing an ‘every child a mathematician’ ethos is essential to help children thrive in this area and realising their potential.

Our Maths Aims

  • Children to develop a love of maths and have an inquisitive mind
  • Children to enjoy mathematics and be aware of the uses it offers in other subjects and beyond the classroom.
  • Children to develop an understanding of mathematics through a process of enquiry, experiment, and practical work.
  • Children to develop the use of mental strategies and work in a systematic way choosing the correct operation and strategy in problem solving situations.
