Vision and Ethos of the Early Years Foundation Stage at St Luke's CE

Through our Early Years Foundation Stage we intend to provide children with the best possible start to their school life, providing the foundations upon which their education can be built to enable them to fulfil their potential.

Our Aims:

  • To provide opportunities through high quality interactions to develop communication and language of the pupils.
  • To provide a wide variety of learning opportunities through specific tailored and planned provision.
  • To ensure all children make excellent progress in their learning and reach their full potential, ensuring they are ready for the next stage of their education.
  • To ensure the environment provides safe, secure, caring and stimulating opportunities for our pupils to learn.

The Curriculum

Our EYFS curriculum has been thoughtfully designed to be specific to the needs of our children, providing them with a wide variety of opportunities and experiences to learn through high quality provision and play. The curriculum has been split into half termly topics to engage children, building upon prior knowledge, skills and experiences they may have had outside of school and exposing them to new. The scope for learning within these topics is wide and adaptable, enabling children the opportunity to achieve and exceed expectations in all areas of the EYFS curriculum whilst preparing them, and equipping them with necessary knowledge and understanding for the next phase of their educational journey.

Transition into Year 1

  • Before the children move from EYFS into Year 1 the teaching staff of these classes meet to discuss each individual child’s progress.
  • The child’s present teacher informs the future teacher of his/her level of ability, special educational needs and any other information relevant to the well-being and development of the individual child.
  • Year 1 teachers are therefore aware of all the children’s achievements and can implement the next steps of their learning.
  • The Year 1 curriculum builds on and extends the experiences children have had during the Foundation Stage.
  • All children attend a meet their new teacher morning in preparation for their move into Year 1.
  • There is also a transition meeting in the Summer term, to support parents with their child’s transition into Year 1.
